Nothing too insightful in this post, just leaving a pulse on what I’ve been up to.

Where I’ve been

I’ve been busy this last week, but have also been finding some time to relax. Wine, a soccer game, time with the lovely Shannon, and a good amount of time spent thinking and socializing.

I’ve started working on the idea currently known as Event Engine (Don’t get too attached to the name. I don’t own the domain.) Maybe I’ll reveal more about it publicly as I go, but for now, I’ll say that it’s a product that helps you answer the question “What am I going to do Friday night?”

Work on it thus far has been a lot of brainstorming, work flows, 30,000 ft. tech planning, feasibility exercises, mockups, etc. The idea has changed a LOT over the last 2 weeks, and I think it’s at the point where building seems like a solid idea. I’ve talked with a ton of people about it and everyone is excited and wants to start using it. I’m taking that as a good sign.

Competitors in the space include: Eventful, BandsInTown, Zvents, Going, Upcoming, and Oodle’s BandTracker. Obviously, I’ve got some secret sauce in my pocket that I think will give me an advantage over these guys.

Where I’m going

I’m hoping to have a pretty good mental image of what I want by the end of the week. I’d like the rough mocks done, workflows documented, and a name picked out. Next week is design work, a skeleton of a website, and the start of a deck. Even if I don’t go for financing, I think having a deck ready will help me to focus on what’s important now, and what’s important to the vision. Two separate things.

I’ve also picked up a coach in the form of my good friend Chris. Here’s to pushing through the ups and downs.

On Sunday I applied to the Founder Institute in NYC. It looks like a pretty phenomenal program, so hopefully it’s an option I have on the table.

On the tech scene front, I’ll be attending John Britton’s Twilio presentation at the NYC Tech Talk tonight. He’s a pretty fun guy, so I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully I’ll run into a few other people I know.

Socially, this weekend will be a great little mini-vacation. Parents are coming to town for the US Open. My friend Alissa is coming in from the West coast for Electric Zoo. On second thought, I may need a vacation after this weekend.
